b2b Solutions was contacted by a Company that owns several businesses including a sugar plantation and refinery with an onsite c-store. Its role was to provide the hundreds of seasonal workers and local community a place to purchase typical c-store items, made on premise fresh foodservice items, and fuel. The operation was being overseen by someone whose duties had grown and who needed to focus their attention elsewhere. Two representatives of our c-store consulting team were selected for the project.
Actions by Our C-Store Consultants Included
Conducted an analysis of the sales, margins, food cost, labor, and other information we were provided.
Two of our c-store consultants met with the company’s owner and other management team members to review and confirm the initial analysis’ findings.
Toured the location and evaluated the location’s exterior interior and layout.
Visited the location to determine current operational processes and practices.
Reviewed the category layouts, shopper standards, merchandising, and store operational practices.
Evaluated current marketing practices including all elements of category management.
Examined the current information system and the reports being generated.
Reviewed how the reports generated were being utilized by management.
Benchmarked the individual locations and chain’s sales and margin results by category against industry standards.
Supplied a set of merchandising guidelines to address the issues found at store level.
Met with company officials and outlined the top items that had to be addressed.
Advised changes in organizational structure.
Submitted changes in the customer communications.
Recommended an evaluation be done to select industry standard software that would better account for fuel, merchandise, and foodservice software for the c-store.
Proposed specific changes in the accounting processes including reporting frequency.
Recommended documentation of current policies and procedures.
Created a list of recommended categories and industry gross margins.
Drafted a list of category roles, strategies, and tactics.
Delivered a list of suggested Key Performance Indicators.
Outlined a marketing planning process.
Documented our findings and recommendations in a report for the company.
